While a standard vet offers general pet services like wellness and sick exams as well as vaccinations and spaying and neutering, they don't always offer urgent or emergency care. However, at Best Friends Veterinary Hospital we provide our patients with urgent care for medical emergencies.
Generally, emergency pet health events are often life-threatening or severely impair the quality of life of your pet. In some cases, if the problem doesn't receive immediate attention, it can impact the health of your pet in the future. If you suspect your pet is experiencing a serious medical emergency, even if it's not immediately life-threatening, it's important to seek out assistance for a diagnosis and prompt treatment to prevent serious complications.
Some examples of serious medical emergencies include the following:
We offer you with a diagnosis as quickly as we can when you come into our office. The type of treatment your pet receives depends on his or her particular condition. For instance, your pet may need diagnostics or surgery.
If you suspect your pet has been poisoned, we can test for common toxins in your pet’s system. We may also perform imaging.
Obviously, you're upset and worried about your pet, but you'll be glad to know we have a standard process for handling emergencies. For instance, the first portion of your visit consists of our office obtaining information about your pet and his or her health. We'll inquire about your pet's current situation. The following fees are associated with our emergency procedures:
-Free for over the phone evaluation/in-house nurse examination
-$200.00 to page the doctor for an emergency in-house evaluation/treatment plan
Once we obtain information about your pet, we may perform diagnostics like imaging or a blood analysis. Most results are in-house and available within 30 minutes. We do what we can to keep your pet comfortable and safe in that time until the results come back. Once we have the results, we can treat the problem accordingly, which may include immediate hospitalization or a prescription you bring home or a combination of both.
