Elevating Care with Pet Diagnostics in Cookeville and Crossville, TN

Your pet may not be able to tell us how they are feeling or if they are harboring illness, but we can still gain a better understanding of their health with the aid of diagnostics. Best Friends Veterinary Hospital uses state-of-the-art lab testing and digital radiography equipment that allow for in-depth and more comprehensive evaluations of your pet. When a physical examination is not quite enough for a definitive diagnosis, our team has other options on hand to help us obtain the answers we need.

We recommend routine bloodwork to make sure your pet is staying healthy, but we can also provide testing to diagnose illness. Contact us today to schedule a visit!

Routine & Medical Laboratory Testing

Our animal hospital regularly uses in-house lab equipment to analyze blood, stool, urine, and tissue samples. Along with routine, comprehensive testing to assess your pet’s overall health, we can also perform more urgent medical tests to guide us in treating an illness or injury.

Some of our recommended routine lab tests include:

  • Complete blood count (CBC)
  • Blood chemistry
  • Fecal exam
  • Urinalysis
  • FeLV/FIV testing (for cats)
  • Heartworm testing with tick-borne vectors
  • Feline ProBNP
  • Dermatological testing

Sending Out Bloodwork

Best Friends Veterinary Hospital can do in-house diagnostics if your pet's levels need to be evaluated the same day. From a routine wellness standpoint, we can get more information at a discounted cost by sending your pet's samples to our reference laboratory.

Digital Radiography

Our digital X-ray machine gives us the ability to visualize the musculoskeletal system and major internal organs for abnormal changes. This might include a broken bone, an inflamed joint, a limb deformity, tumors, foreign bodies, and other issues.

The equipment we use produces high-quality images and much lower doses of radiation than traditional film X-ray equipment. We can also take X-ray images, save them as digital files, and send them out for board-certified specialist review.

Ultrasound (Crossville only)

Along with laboratory testing and X-rays, our Crossville hospital location also offers ultrasound imaging. This tool is preferred in cases where we need to view the heart or abdominal organs in detail, and in real-time. Ultrasound can show us how the organs are functioning, along with their size, shape, and texture.
